About variable fields and delimiters

Overview

About

You can add variable fields to the content of an Auto-Text command to hold the place of information that varies from one document to another. Later, when you use this command, you insert a specific value for each field.

When you insert a variable field in an Auto-Text command, Dragon inserts [default field] at your cursor's insertion point. The left and right brackets are called delimiters. When you later execute the Auto-Text command in your dictation, the delimiters tell Dragon there is a variable field in your text.

Optional?

No. If you insert a variable field, it must be delimited with brackets or another character.

Changing delimiters

You can change variable field delimiters by changing the Left variable delimiter and Right variable delimiter options on the Options dialog box—Commands page. However, Nuance does not recommend changing them. Dragon's commands recognize only the bracket characters as field delimiters. As a result, commands like "Next Field" and "Previous Field" would not work properly.

Navigating between variable fields by voice

Do one of the following:

  • Say one of the following:

    • "Next Field"
    • "Previous Field"

    Or

  • Assign PowerMic buttons to the "Previous field" and "Next field" navigation settings and press them to navigate.

For more information, see Options dialog box—PowerMic .
