Dictation basics
You can use Dragon to dictate text into most Windows applications in just three steps.
- Open the application you want to use.
- Click inside the window or field where you want to dictate.
- Turn on Dragon's microphone and speak!
As you dictate, try to speak at a normal pace and in phrases or complete sentences.
Adding lines and spaces
When you are dictating, you can use Dragon commands for common formatting:
Say: | To: |
---|---|
New line |
Start a new line. This is the same as pressing the Enter key once. |
New paragraph |
Start a new paragraph, including space to offset it from the previous one. Dragon automatically capitalizes the next word you speak. |
Tab or Tab key |
Enter a wide space, usually to align text. This is the same as pressing the Tab key. |
Space bar |
Add a space. |
Dictating punctuation
To include punctuation with your dictation, just say what you want, where you want it. For most dictation, say “period,” “comma,” and “question mark” in the appropriate places as you dictate.
For example, to dictate "The deadline for that is next week, no later than Thursday." say "The deadline for that is next week comma no later than Thursday period."
Fixing mistakes
You're going to make mistakes or change your mind. Everyone does.
Say: | To: |
---|---|
Undo That Undo |
Undo most actions and commands. For example, if you tell Dragon to bold a word in your text but you immediately change your mind, say "Undo That" to remove the bold formatting. |
Scratch that |
Delete text you just dictated. For example, you might dictate the words "Yes, you can borrow my car any time" and then change your mind. Say "Scratch That" to delete the last thing you said. |
You can turn on your microphone and say “what can I say” at any time to have Dragon show you a list of things you can do.
