VoCon SF OpenSpeech

VoCon® SF provides a small-footprint DSP-based automatic speech recognition solution for developing embedded applications that incorporate continuous digit dialing and speaker-independent commands. The VoCon SF Dialog Messaging System (DMS) can ease system integration and speed up time to market of embedded applications with separate speech DSP and high level messaging interfaces to the MCU. In addition to that, the VoCon SF Designer provides an easy-to-use graphical prototyping and dialog creation tool for user interface designers.

Overview

VoCon SF is Nuance's small-footprint solution for automotive applications like hands-free car kits and telematic systems. It enables development of a broad range of voice-controlled applications including command and control, name and number dialing, address book management, and menu navigation. Central to the development framework is the VoCon SF engine, a modular, noise robust speech recognizer that offers high accuracy and fast response time. Ideal for driving low-cost, embedded DSP solutions in automotive, telematics, and consumer electronics, the VoCon SF engine is available in a full version (<100 kBytes) and a VoCon SF Lite version (<25 kBytes) to meet varying platform requirements.

The VoCon SF engine is complemented by supporting software modules and integration tools, as well as dedicated language databases for speaker-independent recognition, to reduce development time and ease integration. Additional product integration and UI consulting services are available to assist customers at all phases of development, integration, and testing. VoCon SF Designer is an easy-to-use application development and UI design kit that supports the generation of speech dialogues and prototype applications. It comes with the VoCon SF SDK (Software Development Kit) that allows developers to experience the functionality of VoCon SF and its related application interface (VOCAPI).

VoCon SF Dialog Management System

The VoCon SF Dialog Management System (DMS) is a complete dialog control software framework for building a speech recognition solution within a system architecture based on a stand-alone DSP that communicates with the MCU via a messaging protocol. The DMS defines the Host-DSP inter-processor communication protocol that is required to control speech recognition and acoustic echo cancellation (VoCon AEC). DMS provides a virtually seamless interface between VoCon SF and the customer's application, making it a highly effective speech dialog solution for embedded markets. It encapsulates the VoCon SF recognition engine, a dialog interpreter, a message interface, and other optional components like AEC and speech prompt decoder into a single embeddable system. Speech dialogs created with VoCon SF Designer can be downloaded into DMS and will work instantly—without requiring any application reprogramming.

Key Benefits
  • Provides a small-footprint DSP-based Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) solution for developing embedded voice recognition applications that incorporate continuous digit dialing and speaker-independent commands.

  • Delivers improved speech recognition accuracy across all supported languages.

  • Supports language requirements for key markets in North America (US English, US Spanish, and Canadian French) and Europe (UK English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and Dutch). Additional languages (Czech, Swedish, etc.) can be created on request.

  • Offers a unique Dialog Messaging System (DMS) with separate speech DSP and high-level messaging interfaces to the MCU—easing system integration and speeding time to market of embedded applications.

  • Provides an updated, easy-to-use graphical prototyping and dialog creation tool for user interface designers.

  • Reduces implementation risk by providing flexible cross-platform quality assurance capabilities.
