Nuance Mobile Developer Program Adds 12 Members, Accelerates Development of Mobile Ecosystem

Partner Program Signs 12 Participants within First Month; Expands and Advances Global Market Potential for Mobile Innovations

BURLINGTON, MA — April 2, 2009 — Nuance Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN) today announced that it has added 12 companies to its Mobile Developers Program in its first 30 days. The Nuance Mobile Developer Program, announced in February, was created for leading-edge integration, platform and OEM partners that develop applications and solutions for mobile and consumer electronic devices.

The Interface Framework component of the Nuance Mobile Developer Program, focused on integrating T9, XT9 and T9 Nav, has experienced the most momentum, signing mobile companies including GoGoBeans, Hanwang Technology, Mobile Labs, nCore, Shapewriter, Inc., Varia Mobile, Vision Objects, and others. Together, Nuance and its partner companies are working toward a mobile ecosystem of compelling applications, innovative technology and unparalleled usability.

“We are very excited to partner with Nuance, a major provider of predictive text input solutions for mobile phones, particularly given Mobile Labs’ focus on the output of text. By leveraging our complementary technology, we’ll be able to provide our customers with significant value-add in embedded text software,” said Anders Borg, CEO, Mobile Labs, a provider of embedded language and text-related software for mobile devices.

“With a solution combining Vision Objects’ MyScript handwriting recognition and Nuance’s XT9 predictive text, we can deliver to the next generation of mobile phones an unrivalled interaction and a great user experience providing a fast, reliable, and intuitive way of entering data,” said Jean-Marc Aïchoun, vice president, sales and marketing, Vision Objects, providers of MyScript handwriting recognition technology that delivers intuitive and powerful solutions for handwritten text inputs on touch screens.

To help partners better understand and benefit from the myriad of services of the Program, Nuance launched its Nuance Mobile Developer Program web site. The portal provides participating developers with full access to Software Developer Kits (SDKs), product and integration training, marketing materials, the Developer Program’s blog, and more. “We’re thrilled about the participation our Developer Program has experienced over the last month, as it demonstrates a clear demand for integration with our portfolio of pervasive speech and text input solutions,” said Michael Thompson, senior vice president and general manager, Nuance Mobile. “As the Program continues to grow, we’re fueling innovation among our partners that stretches across a broad spectrum of mobile technology – from handsets to navigation systems, to websites – essentially any consumer application that warrants intuitive and intelligent input.”
