Nuance Introduces DragonConnect for Dragon NaturallySpeaking Medical and Dictaphone Enterprise Express Customers

New Product Allows Healthcare Customers to Maximize Combined Benefits of Leading General Purpose Desktop Speech Recognition Application and Enterprise wide Dictation and Transcription Solution

HIMSS 2007 – NEW ORLEANS, February 27, 2007 – Nuance Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN), a leading provider of speech and imaging solutions, today introduced DragonConnect™ for Dragon® NaturallySpeaking® Medical customers at the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) show taking place in New Orleans February 25th – March 1st.. With DragonConnect, Dragon NaturallySpeaking Medical customers will be able to take advantage of the enterprise wide dictation, transcription and speech recognition capabilities of the Dictaphone Enterprise Express solution to maximize their clinical documentation effectiveness.

With Dragon NaturallySpeaking Medical, healthcare providers dictate directly into third party clinical information and Electronic Medical Record (“EMR”) applications thereby reducing the cost of transcription, improving report turnaround time and increasing overall adoption rates of these clinical information systems. Many Dragon NaturallySpeaking customers have expressed the need to have the ability to send specific reports to transcription services in instances where they do not have the time to manually review the speech recognized report themselves. DragonConnect will support this capability by providing a software bridge between Dragon NaturallySpeaking Medical and Dictaphone’s Enterprise Express® family of integrated dictation and transcription solutions, including EXVoice™ and EXText™. DragonConnect Version 1.0 will support the following integrated workflows:

DragonConnect and EXVoice

In this workflow, Dragon NaturallySpeaking Medical users will be able to send a full dictated audio report to the EXVoice dictation system using a voice command or microphone control. The dictated report will then be routed to the appropriate transcriptionist for transcription. The transcribed text can be entered directly into the host clinical information system or other third party application.

DragonConnect and EXVoice/EXText

In this workflow, Dragon NaturallySpeaking Medical users will be able to send a full dictated report (audio and text recognized by Dragon NaturallySpeaking) to the EXText transcription system using a voice command or microphone control. The draft report will then be routed to the appropriate transcriptionist for editing and correction within the EXText platform. The transcribed text can then be electronically signed in EXText and uploaded via HL7 to the host application, or it can be uploaded in a preliminary state to be signed electronically with the host application.
